My International Association of Venue Managers - Venue Management School Experience

Hello Everyone,

I feel it is necessary to share my gratitude and experience during my time at the International Association of Venue Managers, Venue Management School I attended the past two years 2014-15.  I graduated and feel very proud of this achievement.

Those two weeks were educational, encouraging, and gave me a boost of power to bring back my invigorated energy to our organization.  I have new ideas and motivation to run with that was learned from the speakers and teachers.  I hope to one day return the favor and give back to our fellow upcoming VMS students because if you put yourself fully into it, you will receive more than expected, at least I did.

That was just the learning part.  The networking is incredible; bouncing ideas off each other in our panel groups was great and even sitting around the fire pit after a long day of classes being able to unload and talk about what challenges you may be facing currently. There were always others around that shared their own experiences because they have been there before, or listened in case they ever run into some of the same obstacles. It was inspiring to see everyone willing to open up and share their thoughts and give advice. I made friends and business connections that I know I can rely on for years to come.

I will be jumping into IAVM as much as possible to give back, broaden my mind, and strive to learn something new daily.  My only problem is what is the next step to take because if I could, I would go to everything:  Performing Arts Conference, Academy for Venue Safety and Security, VenueConnect Annual Conference.  I am upset that I missed VC15 this year, and I know in the future there will be many more that IAVM offers. My only conundrum is if my best choice is to go to the next VMS GI in Wheeling or one of the other Conferences etc.  This is not a problem it shows I have a passion and drive to really be a Leader for IAVM.

Thank you to all the students, advisors, volunteers, and teachers that spent valuable time to sharing with all of us who attended.

All the Best,

Lisa Marie (LM)
