This year’s VenueConnect keynote claims to have assumed no fewer than eight separate identities, impersonating an airline pilot, a doctor, a Bureau of Prisons agent and a lawyer. He also claims that he escaped police custody, not only once but twice.

What could this person possibly have in common with venue professionals?

“We all play multiple roles in our venues, so this may sound like your average venue manager - but it actually describes Frank Abagnale, security consultant and inspiration for the film and Broadway musical Catch Me If You Can,” said John Bolton, CFE, this year’s VenueConnect chair.

Frank Abagnale
Abagnale is one of the world’s most respected authorities on forgery, embezzlement and secure documents. But it all began more than 40 years ago when he was known as one of the world’s most famous con men.

Abagnale’s life was depicted most graphically in his best-selling book, Catch Me If You Can, which subsequently became a major motion picture directed by Steven Spielberg and starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks. The Tony-Award winning musical, “Catch Me if You Can,” directed by multiple award winner Jack O' Brien, opened on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre in April 2011.

More than 10 years after the film was released, Abagnale is celebrating his 36th year with the FBI. He was quoted in The Daily Texan on March 11 in the SXSW Interactive as saying, “I know that I will always work for the FBI, to continue to give back because no matter how many years I work, it will never equal what I took from this country.”

More than 14,000 financial institutions, corporations and law enforcement agencies use his fraud prevention programs. In 1998 he was selected as a distinguished member of “Pinnacle 400” by CNN Financial News – a select group of 400 people chosen on the basis of great accomplishment and success in their fields.

“Abagnale will provide critical information that will help venue managers protect their venue from embezzlement, forgery, identify theft and internet fraud,” Bolton added. “Catch him at VenueConnect and give your venue the edge against the bad guys by learning from one of the world’s foremost (reformed) con men.”

Early Bird registration for VenueConnect is now open. Register by Sunday, April 8 and be entered to win dinner for two at Pier 66! Enjoy a luxurious meal, on our dime, July 21–24, 2012 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
