Long-standing Kodak Theatre Now Known As Dolby Theatre

Dubbed the Kodak Theatre in downtown Hollywood, California since opening in 2001, a new naming rights deal for the venue home to the Oscars is now the Dolby Theatre.

Dolby Laboratories has the rights to the 3,400-seat venue and plans new audio technology and 3D visual systems for a fresh upgrading of the historic facility.

The theatre covers 180,000 square feet on a number of floors and to enhance the cinema experience designers added a 60-foot by 32-foot movie screen, two digital projectors, 164 loudspeakers and two trusses over the audience with 22 aligned speakers on each.

The name change comes after Eastman Kodak Co. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January.
